Name of Assignment: Chemical Changes / Comic Strip Project
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Mrs. Shirkhodai
Description of Work/Assignment: Create a comic book that tells a story along with describing physical and chemical changes with examples.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I believe this project demonstrated Self-Directional skills. Mrs. Shirkhodai put her trust in us that we would use our time wisely and get our work done. I personally made sure I made use of all the time I was given and tried my best to work up to the standards. She was not there to oversee my work due to the pandemic predicament, but I’m glad she put her trust in me.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my illustrations throughout my comic book. I made sure my illustrations represented the story and were clear and neat. I tried to color it with light colors as not to distract from the story at hand.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
Throughout this assignment, I improved my Thinking and Problem Solving skills. I had to implement chemistry into the real world which was always something I struggled with previously. With this assignment I feel more confident about my abilities to apply chemistry to the real world.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part about creating this task was being creative. There are only so many different types of chemical and physical changes related to cooking so I had to be creative and come up with interesting experiments.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could redo this project, I would have liked to provide more examples of physical and chemical changes. I only had 3 pages worth of work, but I know if I had the time I could have done much more.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what we learned in class about physical and chemical changes. We had to differentiate the two and provide examples of them in the real world. I chose to do mine about a bakery and the changes that occur when different mixtures are created.
How can you apply this to future learning?
In the future, I will be able to apply these terms to real life situations. For example, next time I make a recipe that includes baking soda, I will know that the baking soda creates a chemical change that allows the batter to rise!
