Name of Assignment: Scratch Binary Birthday Cake Project
Subject: Computer Science
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Murali
Description of Work/Assignment:
Solve the errors in the given code to properly represent the number through binary code.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I believe this assignment addresses Thinking and problem solving skills. For this assignment, I had to work around errors in my code to find mistakes and rewrite them. This can be difficult because you have to run your code various times to find the specific part of broken code. I used my thinking and problem solving skills to analyze my code and run it back to find errors.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my time efficiency during this project. I was able to complete this assignment in due time whilst making time to recheck my code and make my project as perfect as it could be. I worked on this project over a few days so as to not wait until the last moment.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved in my thinking and problem solving skills through this project. I was able to properly learn to find errors in code and rewrite and complete them to make a proper code. Using these problem solving skills, I felt more confident in my ability to understand binary and find mistakes and fix them without error.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part about this task was reading my code. I often find it difficult to see specific parts of programs when so much is shown on a page, but by going little by little, I was able to solve problems and rewrite code.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
There's not much I could do to improve this work since I got full credit, but if I could redo this project, I would like to add more events to make my program more exciting. We had a song play once the code finished, and it might have been nice to add confetti or some other birthday related items.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to our unit on binary code. We learned how to translate words and numbers into binary code, so this project elevated this lesson to a bigger scale. We had to not only learn how to translate these numbers, but properly code them using math and commands.
How can you apply this to future learning?
In the future, I will be able to translate numbers and letters to binary. Not only have I learned this helpful skill, I can now properly use scratch and navigate it in later lessons.
